Day 1 | Christmas Expectations

by on December 01, 2019

Christmas Expectations (Luke 2) by Beau Eckert

It’s December 1st and Christmas expectations are upon us!

I love anticipating events like Christmas. The build-up can be even more exciting than the event itself. The month is filled with the sights, sounds, smells, and tastes of the season, but it will eventually come to an end. And when it does, it often leads to that inevitable letdown. But when we allow the Christmas build-up to point us to the ADVENT of Jesus, our perspective is changed.

ADVENT means “coming.” We celebrate Jesus’ first coming that brought hope for the hopeless, love for the lonely, joy for the broken-hearted, and peace, lasting peace, for every troubled soul in every corner of our troubled world. That hope, love, joy, and peace not only points us back to his first coming, but it also points us forward to his second ADVENT, His second coming. He came the first time as a humble baby in the manger—God with us. But he will return as the King of Glory.

In the meantime, we live in the space between those two ADVENTS. It is a broken and troubled world, but even now, he is at work in each of us. So let’s engage together all month long with these daily devotionals and the advent calendar available at Calvary Church. Consider joining together with others to worship at Calvary’s ADVENT series all month long and the five special Christmas services the week of Christmas!
