Day 18 | Expressing Joy

by on December 18, 2019

Expressing Joy (Luke 2)
by Laura Leigh Kinley

As we near the end of the year, a few things always come to mind.

The cooler weather has certainly arrived and beckons me to cozy up next to a roaring fire with steaming hot cocoa, a warm blanket, and a good book. The excitement builds with each passing day as the countdown to Christmas gets shorter (only 1 more week!) The many holiday events that have been happening all month long bring some much-needed cheer to the long, dark winter days.

However, even with cozy feelings, anticipation, and fun festivities, this time of year can often be a reminder of the heavy burdens we so deeply feel. Many of us are remembering loved ones who are no longer with us, struggling with financial burdens, relationships, family dynamics, and loneliness, or finding it hard to stay positive in the midst of a difficult season.

With Christmas day only one week away, I invite you to lean in to promise of Christmas and the joy that can be found in Jesus. His birth changed absolutely everything, allowing us to have unexplainable, true joy—even amidst our trials.

As we prepare to celebrate one of the greatest days of the year, let Luke 2:10 be an encouragement to you, wherever you may be this season; “But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.””
