Holy Day or Holi-day: Keeping Christmas about Jesus (Luke 1:5-56, 2:1-20)
by Barry Ferguson

Keeping Christmas about Jesus means daily revealing the character, love, and spirit of Jesus Christ that dwells in you by allowing these traits to shine through your actions. The gift of Jesus Christ started at Christmas but was completed through all the work He did here on earth, including His death, resurrection, and now as the exalted Head of the Church. This was a servant’s sacrifice.

Letting Him shine through your actions might mean to set aside a special time to read the Christmas story in Luke 1:5-56 through 2:1-20 (especially Christmas Eve or Day), set up a Nativity scene in your home, do a project of good will, or give a surprise gift of service to each member of your family.

Today, encourage each family member to give Jesus one very special gift just from them. This gift could be something that no one else needs to know about, and let it be a sacrifice. Maybe your gift could be to forgive someone you've needed to forgive for a long time or to let go of something you are holding on to. Perhaps your gift will be to commit to spending time with Jesus or to make a plan to allow Jesus to shine through you. This could be your most important gift of the season!
