Day 6 | Remembering Our Hope in Jesus

by on December 06, 2019

Remembering Our Hope in Jesus (Colossians 1:27)
by George May

Israel was looking forward with hope toward the Messiah. Yet, similar to a 3 year old who wants a small toy tricycle and starts to cry when they get a real tricycle because it wasn’t what they thought they wanted, Israel didn’t realize the greatness of what was being offered to them. They thought they wanted a Messiah that gave them freedom from Rome, a conquering King who would provide for their physical needs and keep them safe. But Jesus offered them (and us) something much greater… HIMSELF.  Jesus paved the way for our forgiveness and a restored relationship with Him. I’m so thankful God gave us far more than we hoped for.

Paul calls this great gift “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:27) Christ is in those of us who have placed our faith in Him for salvation; He is our hope of glory, a confident expectation of glorious things to come. Paul also tells us that what God has prepared for those who love Him is beyond what any eye has seen, what any ear has heard, or any heart has imagined. (1 Corinthians 2:9)  Way more than streets of gold, reunion with loved ones, or freedom from pain, we will be in the presence of God HIMSELF. What a gift!

This Christmas, as you remember how Christ was so much more than people expected, thank God that He gave us HIMSELF. Spend time pondering this hope, anticipating the unimaginable greatness of the glory that is yet to come—the love, joy, and awe of a face-to-face relationship with God.
