Read Around the World

04.23.19 | Stories by Childrens Ministry

Read Around the World is a missions reading program that we designed and began in 2004 for our elementary children who attend Discovery Clubs on Wednesday nights. Read Around the World encourages our kids to read or listen to missionary biographies - stories of ordinary men, women, and even children whose deep love for God and submission to Him resulted in God doing amazing things in and through them! Our greatest desire is that our children will be inspired to wholly Pursue Life in Christ and allow Him to use them whenever and wherever He chooses.

Every year, we kick off Read Around the World in October and have an awards night in April. This year, more than 100 of our kids participated! If you visit our library hallway, you can see our huge Read Around the World bulletin board that lists the names of the children who read the various biographies just this year. If you can, take a few minutes to read the short blurbs about each of the missionaries and get inspired to read the biographies for yourself!

This past Wednesday night, we awarded our top readers with trophies and medals. Twenty of our 1st-3rd graders read all of the biographies in the “Young Readers Series”, while thirteen of our 4th-6th graders read 15 full biographies. Every child who participated received a certificate and enjoyed choosing prizes. Read Around the World prize night is always a highlight of our Discovery Club year!
